Hardware test & automation engineer

About us

At Virenti, our ambition is to make the electronics industry significantly more sustainable. We provide an alternative to a 60 year old fossil-based material (FR-4), with our 100% bio-based, high-performance laminate for Printed Circuit Boards. We have recently won the Innovative Starters Award of the Brussels Region (500 kEuro price) and in the next few years we are scaling up our production. So, we are now looking for an engineer to join our core team to support us in material testing and process automation. As the 3rd full-time person in our start-up, you will have the opportunity to actively shape the future of the company and the solution and to growth as a lead engineer.

Practical
  • Employment type: we are looking for a full time employee.
  • Team spirit: since we are a small team, our aim is be on-site together minimum 4 days per week.
  • Location: primarily in Lot with a future transition toward Brussels.
The Role

You will work directly with us, the 2 founders, to bridge the gap between material R&D and industrial reality. Your role is to execute systematic material tests, analyze and interpret the results and leverage the insights to build and and automate the tools and production processes used in this process. You are essentially engineering the testing infrastructure and the platform that will allow our bio-based material to scale. This is a hands-on position where we expect a 60/40 split between testing and Mechatronics automation. We are looking for a engineer with a broad interest field who likes variation, taking autonomy and translating plans into tangible results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test Execution & Analysis: Run systematic tests on the material (mechanical, electrical, thermal and other properties).
  • Sample production: Use the lab-scale equipment to build samples in a systematic way.
  • Data Interpretation: Collect, structure and analyze the results to optimize as a team the formulations and process. (Experience in material development is not a must since we have this expertise on board already.)
  • Setup building, optimization and automation: Design and build small-scale test setups and pilot production units. You will combine off-the-shelf equipment (pumps, heaters, sensors, …) with custom parts and integrate them into a functional, control system using Python or similar tools.
  • Pilot Scaling: Help transition our lab-scale unit operations into a reliable, modular pilot line.
Your Profile
  • Engineering Background: Degree in Electromechanical, Mechatronics or other relevant Engineering field. Experience in the field of material development is a plus.
  • Lab Mindset: You have previous lab-experience and enjoy being in the lab, doing rapid prototyping, getting your hands dirty and the "build-test-learn" cycle.
  • Technical Generalist: You are comfortable with electronics/sensor integration and scripting for hardware automation.
  • Ownership: You take responsibility for your work but have the maturity to ask for help when a problem requires the team's combined expertise.
  • Electronics: a background or understanding of Electronics design and manufacturing is a plus.
  • Maturity: a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Language: working proficiency in English, preferably also proficient in Dutch or French
Our offer
  • We offer a fast-growing environment with a clear purpose where you will be able to grow with the company.
